Whos with me here? Ever since my time at NSCC, they have pushed the “portfilio” concept. I have seen its use, and lack there of. Yes, a portfolio is a great idea, espically in IT, and web, where we can put all our stuff in one location to show to a potential employer or a contract. Company portfolios are extreemly powerfull, to be able to give a presentation to a client and quickly show what you have down. On the other side, as a IT worker, to beable to show what you have in a very slick way can be just as powerfull. Now, I have never been asked for a portfolio in a interview, however I have been asked for work examples. My idea is for a very quick way to do this. I want basically a purpose driven CMS. I want to develop a product that has a uber slick install like wordpress, has a great backend, has a very customizable front end. I want it to be Ajax driven, PHP/MySQL, I want to use a solid open soruce framework, and I want it to be popular. But will it be? If you had this, would you care? Would the kicker for you be that you have a very powerfull back end, and a front that is so customizable you can create a flash template instantly? or a flex site for that matter? I’d like to hear from some guys in the community right now, users, and developers. What do you want, what do you need? What can make this something that you want to use? So, whos with me?

Microsoft buying yahoo… a good thing?
February 5th, 2008 · No Comments · The News
I was reading a article on Techcrunch and it was talking about how this might be a good thing for this to happen. They mentioned that if Google and Yahoo merge than it would eliminate competition. That Microsoft would bring the Yahoo! brand up to what it once was, the homepage of the internet. And would also help add fuel to Yahoo’s fire of sites and techologies that seem to be struggling due to there lack of value. Lets face it, Yahoo! once ruled the internet, and now they don’t. They need cash, and Microsoft is probably one of the best sources to get it. If they keep the brand, and keep the sites, then this could be a excellent thing. Only time will tell though.

Microsoft is “buying” yahoo?!?
February 1st, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized
OK, ill give in, I’ll join in on the bandwagon just this one time. Yes, Microsoft has made a $44.6 Billion dollar bid to completely purchase yahoo and all stock. I’m willing to bet that this will go through, yahoo knows they cant compete with google, and they also know Microsoft can’t, so it might be a wise effort to take the cash, stop trying to do the impossible, and let Microsoft think they have a chance. However, my fear is what will happen to the internet. Yahoo runs alot of sites currently, my favorite is flickr. If you read the posts throughout flickr groups, there is a overall fear about this. Microsoft has a bad habbit of buying and killing good things, and I don’t want flickr to die. Here is the link.

Nikon D60 is a bit of a let down :(
February 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments · Uncategorized
Nikon released there new D40x replacement, the D60. This was very well expected, however, not quite like this. The only real change is that the kit comes with a 18-55mm VR lens (as opposed to the regular 18-55), and that the camera also has some fancy technology that “cleans” the sensor of dust. Most reviews I read say this don’t work. Now, I do think that, if I was starting out with a DSLR, the D60, would be a much better choice than what else is out there, and it is a improvement over the D40x, but not enough of a improvement to make me want/need to upgrade, and frankly thats what I was hoping for.

Sony’s fullframe DSLR
February 1st, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Ok, so I know most of you arn’t photography geeks like me so here is the 30sec elevator pitch on WTF a full frame camera is. a 35mm slr (good old film) captures a image that is 35mm. The actual size of the film. Now, most DSLR’s are not 35mm. The sensor (what captures the image) is much smaller. This means that the lens can are are smaller, the images may capture less detail, etc. I know I hate comparing film to digital, but the point of a full frame camera, is that the sensor is 35mm, which means it captures more of the picture, and bigger sensors are very good things boys and girls. Ok, so here is the gear.
So, basically, here is sonys new 25mp DSLR. It is big, powerful, and 100% pro. It also excites me in ways only gear like this can And this makes me think I need a doctor in a white coat and a padded room. Oh well

I don’t quite understand it but my transparent laptop shot is the most popular image on my flickr account. By a large number too, this has had over 700 views, the #2 shot I believe is over 400. Weird.
