Like I Said… Nobody cares about 3D TV’s

December 22nd, 2010 · No Comments · The News

I’ve had this argument conversation a few times with people now; finally there are statistics to prove I am right, and nobody cares about 3DTV (well, most people don’t).
Nielsen did a survey a few months back to see exactly how many people care about 3DTV; more specifically they polled who would be buying one in the next three months. You can read the poll however the short story is that less than 10% of those asked said they will buy a 3DTV in the next 12 months, roughly 15% said they might.
Even more interesting is the majority of people that actually want to buy this change there mind after experiencing it first hand. Does this mean we can stop making everything 3D and get back to just better quality sound and video?

First pics of the google phone!

February 12th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Here it is folks, no longer a rumor or a dream. This is what the Google phone will look like… well, since this is a prototype, that was probably a bit of a exaggeration. Either way, it looks pretty slick. I’m thinking it looks a lot like the Motorola q though. that could just be me though.

1.6TB SSD Drives!

1.6TB SSD Hard Drive

If any of you remember (I know I don’t), at CES08, somebody released a 832GB SSD Drive. This was a physical unit, that though not in mass production, worked. Now, they are releasing (though we haven’t seen it yet) a 1.6TB version. My only question other then when can I kill someone to get this? is, how much will this cost, and what model Porsche can I afford if I choose not to buy this beast?

Nikon D60 is a bit of a let down :(

February 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments · Uncategorized

Nikon released there new D40x replacement, the D60. This was very well expected, however, not quite like this. The only real change is that the kit comes with a 18-55mm VR lens (as opposed to the regular 18-55), and that the camera also has some fancy technology that “cleans” the sensor of dust. Most reviews I read say this don’t work. Now, I do think that, if I was starting out with a DSLR, the D60, would be a much better choice than what else is out there, and it is a improvement over the D40x, but not enough of a improvement to make me want/need to upgrade, and frankly thats what I was hoping for.

Sony’s fullframe DSLR

February 1st, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Ok, so I know most of you arn’t photography geeks like me so here is the 30sec elevator pitch on WTF a full frame camera is. a 35mm slr (good old film) captures a image that is 35mm. The actual size of the film. Now, most DSLR’s are not 35mm. The sensor (what captures the image) is much smaller. This means that the lens can are are smaller, the images may capture less detail, etc. I know I hate comparing film to digital, but the point of a full frame camera, is that the sensor is 35mm, which means it captures more of the picture, and bigger sensors are very good things boys and girls. Ok, so here is the gear.

So, basically, here is sonys new 25mp DSLR. It is big, powerful, and 100% pro. It also excites me in ways only gear like this can And this makes me think I need a doctor in a white coat and a padded room. Oh well :)

Geotagging is awsome!

I love traveling, road trips, vacations, whatever, I just love to see the world. Of course, I love to photograph my trips. As many people like me, you end up with thousands of photos, and you often forget where the sweet jebus you took them. I mean, the east coast has a bagilion beaches, and its hard to tell them from each other. One of the nice things flickr does is let you place the photo on a map. This is all good and dandy… but somewhat time consuming. A) it takes a while to upload all your pics, write titles, descriptions, add tags, and then place them on a map. and B) go through old photos and figure out where you took them. So, here is a sweet solution Geotagging! You bring a gps along on your trip, and record a trip log. Basically, you end up with a text file, with exact quarantine’s, and time stamps. A big lost that when read with the right software allows you to view a path on a map of where you went. Now, there is some software that takes this list, and a group of photos, and then matches the time stamps. It will check to see when photo a was taken, where were you, than adds these quard’s to the photo details. Now, when you upload to flickr, it adds it to the map automatically. I suppose you dont save a step, because you have to match the files and picures, but if you have 200 photos from a trip, you only have to do this once, and not add 200 photos to a map. Plus, its so fun to link technology that has no similar designs.

Santa can’t bring everything…

December 27th, 2007 · No Comments · Uncategorized

And thats what boxing day sales are for! Actually, the toys I’m getting are not on sale, but I couldn’t think of anything else to say. I ordered a new toy for my camera, a battery grip / vertical shutter release. Basically it lets me use 2 batteries, and also gives me a second shutter release and stuff for when I’m shooting portrait style. I’m getting my HTC Touch tomorrow afternoon, but that is more out of necessity not desire. The big big thing is a new lens. Im gonna get the Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. I got alot of money from CGI and some for Christmas, so Im gonna go get it tomorrow or Saturday. I’m gonna explode from all the toys I got / am getting!

They were wrong again.

December 27th, 2007 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So, apparently there are no HTC Touch phones in the HRM. Halifax Shopping Center is supposed to receive a shipment of 10, but nobody knows when that will happen, and they say probably not today. I have talked to AML in Sackville and they are ordering me a Touch, and it will be here tomorrow afternoon. This means I have to dive into my bag of dead cell phones at home and try to find something that works until tomorrow night when my touch gets home. On top of all this, I’m told I need a data plan, and rogers site doesn’t let me add this to my account. I’m so not happy with rogers.

My cell phone died :(

December 27th, 2007 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I am a little upset right now. I purchased a Treo650 from tigerdirect.ca in August and it no longer works. I just contacted tiger direct and they told me my warrently ended last month, and it was with tiger direct, palm has no warranty because it was a refurb through cingular. Im hoping that this is simply a completly dead battery, and I can buy a new one somewheres, if not, I need a new phone. And rogers wants to charge me almost $500 for a new treo 680! Im going to buy a new one of I do buy one, becasue I don’t want to be burned by tiger direct, or a refurb phone again.
